Richie Wellens has been appointed Swindon Town’s new manager, the League Two club have confirmed.Wellens, 38, takes charge of the County Ground club two days after Phil Brown was sacked from his position with Swindon struggling in the lower reaches of the table; the Robins sit 17th after 17 games, having won on just five occasions.Former Reading, Leeds and Ipswich player Noel Hunt – who also represented the Republic of Ireland – joins as Wellens’ assistant.He leaves his role as player/assistant manager of Waterford in his native Ireland to take up the position.Wellens said upon the confirmation of his appointment: “For me, its a great opportunity to manage a football club that is well-run, has a good infrastructure, and a tradition, over the last six or seven years, of playing a style that I want to play.Wellens has been out of work since June2
